At the time of the attack, around 140 children and staff members were inside the preschool, but all were safely evacuated. One security officer was injured after being struck by the vehicle, and several emergency responders were treated for smoke inhalation caused by a fire inside the building.

Officials identified the suspect as Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a man previously convicted of providing support to ISIS and released from prison in 2024. Investigators said he shouted religious phrases before opening fire, and the FBI is examining the incident as a possible act of terrorism.
